Dear friend,
I would like to let you know of some of the things that I will be doing for the next couple of months, after graduation from high school. I would like to give you the opportunity to support me in prayer. I would also appreciate if you would keep me accountable, so please ask me questions about what’s happening and where I will be going, I would like to share it with you.
Summer 2012...
This summer, from July 2 to August 27 I will be working at Pembina Valley Bible Camp which is just south of Darlingford, Manitoba. July 2 to July 6 staff training is going to be taking place at PVBC. While I will be at camp I will be counselling for the summer, this will also include getting ready for the campers, prepping dramas, leading a skill, helping out where it is needed and other camp activities. I am super excited to have this chance of working at camp again this summer. I would really appreciate your prayer support personally as I know there will be challenges, specifically I would like to ask for wisdom, strength and energy.
On to the fall...In considering what I wanted to do after high school, I have applied and been accepted for Youth With A Mission’s (YWAM) Discipleship Training School (DTS) in New Zealand. This school goes for a period of six months. My school is located in Oxford, about a 50 minute drive from Christchurch on the south island of New Zealand. The official Discipleship Training School that I am going to is Justice DTS. Its focus is all about knowing Jesus and learning to live justly to honor and give thanksgiving to God. Part of that also includes actively taking part in the lives of those who need help; the oppressed, the victims and the suffering.
What I will be learning...
The first three months are called the lecture phase. Some of the topics we will be studying, are the character and nature of God, kingdom of God, Biblical worldview, relationships, the Lordship of Jesus, the Holy Spirit and spiritual warfare. With the focus on justice I will also be learning about different issues of injustice such as, fair trade/slave labor, displaced people/refugees, human trafficking, corruption, human rights, oppression, gender discrimination and racism. During these three months there will also be a variety of activities to strengthen relations with others and with God, like small groups, classroom teaching, study time, worship and intercession time, community and base duties, mission/ outreach activities and interactions with the local church and community.
For the last three months I will have the chance to apply my learning on a larger scale and to step out in faith. Each DTS group goes for mission outreach away from the base. Normally the team focuses on one area and has the opportunity to serve alongside long-term missionaries, and gets to experience and learns how to bring change spiritually and practically. Each location is prayed about, so as of now my mission outreach destination is not confirmed because it varies from year to year. In the past, the school has gone to Israel & Palestine, Cambodia, Thailand, Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal and India.
I would love to give you the opportunity to support me in pray as I follow God’s calling. I would also like to give you the opportunity to support me financially; your monetary donation would go towards my mission outreach part of the school.
